iPerfumer... smell different!

iPhoners! Sensitive to the world of perfumes, but a little lost when thrown in the middle of a Sephora shop or another point of sales from the selective distribution? Don't panic, the perfumers'company Givaudan created for you 'the' application that will guide you through your future olfactory choices! A solution rather smart, coming at a time when advice is sorely lacking in perfumeries.
A few years ago, Quest International, a perfumers'company bought in 2007 by Givaudan, had already tried to install a similar software at Printemps Beauté in Paris, at Printemps in Toulon, at Harrods in London and at Sak's in New York. This software was asking the user details about his tastes and olfactory experiences, including scents, colors, materials or environments preferred. Unfortunately, due to a lack of visibility, the installation was quickly removed.
The iPhone application is obviously much easier and faster to use, but is a little bit the logical continuation of this first attempt to advise customers, version 2.0.
How does it work? Easy! Create your profile, enter your age, rate the seven olfactory families and the perfumes that you like. The application guides you through this final step with examples, by explaining the terms that you are not familiar with. Your olfactory profile will be outlined from this information.
A lot of perfumes are already listed in this database. Clearly, the main objective of this application is to make practical and accessible the choice of your next perfume. Small problem however: one would expect a bit more descriptions for each perfume, perhaps a tagline, a sentence that could describe the concept, a visual ... well, a little bit of dream, that can help you identify with the territory of a range and its universe. An element that can sometimes be important in the choice of a perfume.
Finally, to achieve the 'practicality' objective, one could imagine a GPS feature, that could locate the nearest perfumery where to find the fragrance recommended by the application. Useful, especially when the perfume is not available in selective distribution.
A smart first step to help the customers, fans of high tech and in demand for more advice.
